Procedures
We provide special expertise in gynecologic care, obstetrics, urinary incontinence, menopause, and gynecologic cancer. We offer the most up-to-date technology for diagnosis and treatment, including:
- Laparoscopy / Hysterectomy
This minimally invasive procedure is designed to speed-up recovery and minimize pain and minimize complications associated with hysterectomy. As opposed to traditional hysterectomies, which require a large incision, several days in the hospital and up to 6 weeks recovery, most women will go home either the same or next day with a 2-4 week recovery period and only small 5-10 mm. scars. Not all patients are candidates for laparoscopic hysterectomy, however if you need a hysterectomy and are a good candidate this is an excellent procedure.

- HerOption™
Cryoablation is an excellent one-time safe and simple ablative treatment for heavy bleeding similar to Novasure. This procedure is done by freezing the inner lining of the uterus to destroy it to cut down the bleeding. 90% of patients who have this done will have significant improvement in their bleeding with either light bleeding or no bleeding at all. Not all patients are good candidates for it, but for those who do it’s an excellent option for heavy periods. It is done in the office taking an average time of approximately 15 minutes to perform the procedure. It is extremely well tolerated with no significant recovery period. View more

- Robotic Surgery
Robotics is in addition to the laparoscopic surgery. The advantage of robotics is the precision, 3-D visualization with increased precision of the surgery. It is not required for all laparoscopic surgeries but it can be very helpful in certain surgeries requiring more extensive dissection; specifically situations such as advanced endometriosis and cancer. Much like traditional laparoscopic hysterectomy, patients are able to go home within 24 hours, recover quicker and have less pain, perhaps even less than the regular laparoscopic hysterectomy. - Novasure®
This is a proven one-time safe and simple ablation treatment to control heavy bleeding. It uses heat to destroy the inside lining of the uterus, which is where the periods come from. It works 90% of the time meaning that a patient’s periods will either significantly decrease or stop altogether. It is excellent, especially for women who are done childbearing, experiencing heavy periods, looking for less invasive treatments than hysterectomy and are not responding to medications. The procedure can be done in an average treatment time of less than 10 minutes under local anesthesia in the office. In addition, in our office the patient also has the option of watching the procedure being done on her on a flat screen TV and can bring her own IPod in to play her own music while it’s being done. - Essure®
This is a minimally invasive procedure for tubal ligation. It is done in our office under local anesthesia through a hysteroscope that allows the patient to view it while we are doing it. It involves the insertion of micro-coils into the fallopian tubes creating a scarring of the fallopian tubes. Its success rate is better than the traditional tubal ligation and it is done in a much safer, simpler and less painful way. It is highly recommended for those patients who have decided that they want a tubal ligation and allows the patient to avoid the risks of general anesthesia and a major surgery, which is the traditional way of performing the tubal ligation. There is no significant recovery period. Patients are able to resume all normal activities the next day. It does however require 3 months to become effective and a patient does need to use an alternative form of birth control during that 3-month period of time. View more

- Incontinence Procedures
- Urodynamics: We offer urodynamic testing in our office. Urodynamic testing is a test in which to try to determine the reasons for someone’s leaking urine or having other bladder dysfunction. It is not in and of itself a treatment, but helps us figure out the best way to treat your condition. Not all incontinence problems require surgery nor do all respond to medications. Urodynamics are an important component to try and figure out what the best approach is for you.
- TVT Slings: For those who have stress incontinence (i.e. leaking with coughing or sneezing) we do perform the TVT sling, which is considered the current gold standard of minimally invasive surgery for incontinence. This procedure can be done in an average time of approximately 15-20 minutes. It is currently done in the hospital, though in the future may be done in the office. It does not require an overnight stay if it’s the only procedure being done. Most patients resume normal activities within a week.

- Nuchal Translucency
A prenatal scanning screen including nuchal scan or nuchal translucency is done to help identify fetuses at risk for chromosomal disorders such as Down syndrome, as well as to help confirm the accuracy of pregnancy dating and fetal viability. The advantage of this testing over traditional testing is that it is done in the 1st trimester usually between 10-13 weeks allowing the patient more time and more options in terms of further testing and/or treatments. We currently offer and recommend this for all of our patients over the age of 35 and anyone under the age of 35 who either request it or has specific other risk factors.
